Speyer Debate WOWS at their First Tournament — Brings Home Top School Award, Gavel, Speaker Awards, and MORE!
Congratulations to our Speyer Debaters on a terrific turnout and performance at the first NYDL tournament of the year! Winning a top school award, a gavel, a division, seven speaker awards, and racking up five winning records and many teams in the top spots is an impressive day’s work to say the least!
With all of the fabulous details we have this from Coach MacKay:
Connor L. was top speaker in the Novice Division and secured the gavel! Connor L., Baxter O., and Jack L. were undefeated and clinched the top team spot in Novice! Maddie C., Yuta K., and Rapha S. came close behind in the fifth place spot, and Vivian H., Lucy J., and Max S. were in sixth place, all with winning records. Asher T., Trent P., and Lucas L. also held their own and had some close rounds!
In the Varsity Division, Ariella J., Minseung K., and Lukas H. made it to a winning record and a spot in the top 10, and Zachary C., Adil K., and Aarush B. also had a winning record and got the 11th spot. Lucille K., Immie E., and Linkai S., and Una Joy H., Lucas H., and Gabriel O. also gave it their all, as did Livia B., Arianna R., and Chloe W.
Every single team contributed to the wins that led to our Top School Award! And to round off the accolades, along with the gavel, additional speaker awards went to Baxter O., Jack L., Rapha S., Una Joy H., Immie E., and Gabriel O. Many thanks to our parent judges and supporters, our alumni judges, and Mr. Iliev for all of the judging and help on the day. And thank you to Mr. Donovan for sponsoring pizza!
