Seventh Grade Journeys Back to the Middle Ages at The Morgan Library

Spotted off the Boulevard and at The Morgan Library: Speyer seventh graders kicking off the year with a visit to the library's renowned collection of medieval and Renaissance illuminated manuscripts. In an interdisciplinary unit between Humanities, Art, and Science, our seventh graders are studying the power, technique, and raw manpower required to create a single book in the Middle Ages.

Their recent trip to the Morgan Library was the start of their unit on globalization in the Middle Ages, as well as their introduction to The Morgan Book Project. This project is an extended learning program in collaboration with The Morgan’s education staff that guides students on an in-depth study of illuminated manuscripts and results in each student creating their own manuscript made from paints and materials common to The Morgan's collection. Stay tuned throughout the year on updates about this fascinating unit!
